Gas shutdown in Lahore tonight: DHA, Askari, Cantt without gas from 9 pm to 6 am

Gas shutdown in Lahore tonight: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has cut gas to a large part of east and south-east Lahore from 9 pm on Wednesday 30 September to 6 am on Thursday 1 October to repair a leaking pipeline on Barki Road. If you live in DHA, Askari, Cantt or along Airport Road, plan breakfast and tomorrow morning's hot water around a 6 am restoration.

Areas without gas

SNGPL listed these areas:

• DHA Phases 1 to 8
• Askari X and Askari XI
• Main Barki Road and Paragon City
• Airport Road and the Cantonment area
• Mehfoozpura, Ghazi Road and Ghaziabad
• Nishat Colony, Harbanspura and Bedian Road
• Dharampura and Canal Road

The company said the work is on a leaking line along Barki Road, which feeds much of this part of the city.

What to do tonight

1. Turn off every gas appliance now: stoves, geysers and heaters. When supply returns early in the morning, an open valve can leak gas into the kitchen before anyone notices. SNGPL asked consumers to keep appliances off during the shutdown.
2. Fill a flask and keep food ready for an early breakfast if your household starts before 6 am.
3. Do not use a generator or cylinder heater indoors as a substitute. Carbon monoxide is odourless.
4. After 6 am, light one burner first and check the flame is steady and blue before using the geyser.
5. Report a smell of gas to SNGPL's emergency line, 1199, rather than trying to trace it yourself.

Will it affect my bill?

If gas is not back by 6 am

Repair work can overrun. If pressure is still missing by mid-morning on Thursday, call 1199 with your consumer number from the bill, or register a complaint through SNGPL's website. Keep your appliances off until the line is confirmed restored.
