Pink Scooty Sindh: handover starts in Mirpurkhas, action against men who ride them

Update, 27 September 2026: Scooters are now being handed over. At a ceremony in Mirpurkhas on Saturday, Sharjeel Memon said women receive a scooter only after training and a driving test, repeated that the scooters are for women only and that action will be taken against any man seen riding a pink scooter, and said pink taxis for women will be launched soon. The target remains scooters for up to 50,000 women who obtain driving licences, Dawn reported.

Sindh's free Pink Scooty electric scooters for women will go only to women who hold a permanent driving licence and pass a driving test, Sindh Senior Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Saturday 26 September 2026, ARY News and Abb Takk reported. A learner licence will not be enough to receive a scooter.

What the minister said

• Permanent licence and test first. Women who have applied will have to get a full licence and pass a test before a scooter is handed over.
• 50,000 applications for licences. More than 50,000 women have applied for driving licences since the scheme was announced, Memon said, compared with only 154 women who held a licence across Sindh before it. If 50,000 women qualify, he said, the Sindh government will give scooters to all of them.
• For women only. The scooters cannot be modified for men. Officials will carry out surprise checks, and a scooter found being ridden by a man will be taken back.
• No strings attached. Memon said recipients are not obliged to vote for any party.

How to apply

Applications are on the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) website at smta.gos.pk, under "Pink Scooty / Learning EV Registration". The form has four steps:

1. Personal details: full name, father's or husband's name, email, mobile number, CNIC number (the form checks whether your CNIC has already applied), division and address.
2. Eligibility: your applicant type. SMTA says priority goes to widows, single mothers, working women and students.
3. Documents: scans of your CNIC, domicile, PRC, learning licence and student or employee card.
4. Declaration, then submit.

SMTA says applications are verified and winners chosen by balloting. It has not published a closing date or the total number of scooters on the page.

What this means if you have applied

The registration form asks for a learning licence, but the minister's condition is a permanent licence plus a road test. If you have only a learner's permit, book your permanent licence test now so you are not left out when balloting and handover begin.

What to watch

The Sindh government has not yet said when the first scooters will be handed over or how many will be in the first ballot. We will update this page when SMTA announces the ballot date.
