Europa League results: Lyon beat Crystal Palace 3-2, Sunderland win late, Milan hit Salzburg for four
Matchday 2 of the Europa League league phase: Palace lose on Pierre Sage's return to Lyon, Noah Sadiki's stoppage-time goal rescues Sunderland in Portugal, and Juventus snatch it at Celta.

Crystal Palace lost 3-2 at Lyon on Thursday night in the Europa League, while Sunderland needed a 93rd-minute winner to beat Portuguese side Torreense 2-1. It was matchday 2 of the league phase, and for the two Premier League clubs it was a night of mixed fortunes. Here are the results Pakistani football fans searched for overnight, with the scorers.
Lyon 3-2 Crystal Palace
Palace manager Pierre Sage went back to the club he used to coach and came away beaten. Lyon were ahead inside ten minutes through Corentin Tolisso, and Ernest Nuamah doubled the lead in stoppage time at the end of the first half.
Palace came out quickly after the break and Yeremy Pino pulled one back, but Pavel Sulc restored Lyon's two-goal cushion. Daichi Kamada scored with nine minutes left to set up a tense finish, and Lyon held on. Dawn reported that it was Palace's fourth defeat of the season in all competitions, while Lyon have two wins from two in the league phase.
Torreense 1-2 Sunderland
Sunderland came close to an embarrassing night in Portugal. Volnei Feltes put Torreense ahead in the 37th minute and the home side held the lead until the hour. Sunderland's manager sent on Granit Xhaka and Enzo Le Fee just before 60 minutes, and the change worked: Jules Ahoka equalised soon after.
The winner came deep in stoppage time, when Noah Sadiki scored in the 93rd minute. A late Sunderland penalty was ruled out after a VAR check, but by then the points were safe. Sky Sports noted it was Sunderland's second Europa League win in two matches.
Other Europa League results

Leverkusen, Juventus, Benfica and Bournemouth all have perfect starts after two matches.
What it means
The league phase has 36 clubs and each plays eight matches. The top eight go straight to the round of 16, while the clubs from ninth to 24th go into a knockout play-off, so a defeat in October is far from fatal for Palace. Sunderland, on six points, are already in a strong position for at least a play-off place.
For viewers in Pakistan, Europa League matches are on the Tapmad streaming app, which listed the Torreense v Sunderland match among its live games. Matches kick off in the evening in Europe, which is late night in Pakistan, so most fans here catch up on the results in the morning.
