Real Madrid vs Sevilla 4-1: Mbappe scores twice, Guler and Diomande strike, gap to Barca now six

Real Madrid vs Sevilla finished 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday 18 October, with Kylian Mbappe scoring twice, Arda Guler curling in the opener and Yan Diomande finishing it off late. The win lifts Jose Mourinho's side to third in La Liga, one point behind Atletico Madrid and six behind leaders Barcelona, who had won 5-2 at Real Betis a day earlier, Fox Sports reported.

Madrid played without Vinicius Junior, who sat out the first game of a four-match ban.

The goals, minute by minute

• 30', Arda Guler (1-0): Diomande drove down the left and laid the ball back, and Guler bent it over Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, beIN Sports reported. It came minutes after a VAR check on an incident involving Sevilla's Peque, accused of an elbow, which ended without a red card.
• 37', Kylian Mbappe (2-0): Jude Bellingham flicked the ball on the turn and Mbappe went round Vlachodimos before rolling it in.
• 63', Mbappe penalty (3-0): Andres Castrin tripped him in the box and Mbappe chipped the spot-kick down the middle.
• 80', Manu Bueno (3-1): Bueno took the ball off Mbappe, played a one-two with Lucas Stassin and curled a shot into the bottom corner.
• 82', Yan Diomande (4-1): The forward who made the first goal scored the last, a strike into the top corner.

What it means for the table

Madrid are third and the gap to Barcelona is six points before the two meet next Sunday. Sevilla stay sixth. Barcelona's win at Betis kept their perfect start going (our report: Real Betis vs Barcelona 2-5), so a Clasico defeat would leave Madrid nine behind before November.

Mourinho's side are scoring freely across competitions: they won 4-3 in Rome last week after three goals in seven minutes (Roma 3-4 Real Madrid).

Real Madrid's next five matches, in Pakistan time

From the fixture list published by Sports Illustrated, converted to PKT (Spain moves its clocks back on 25 October, so the gap to Pakistan grows from three hours to four):

The Clasico at Barcelona is the one to set an alarm for: it starts at 9pm in Spain on Sunday 25 October, which is 1am on Monday in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
