Roma 3-4 Real Madrid: three goals in seven minutes complete Mourinho's comeback in Rome

Roma vs Real Madrid finished 3-4 on Wednesday night at the Stadio Olimpico, and it was one of the comebacks of the Champions League season so far. Real Madrid were 3-1 down with the game slipping away, then scored three goals in about seven minutes, all from corners, to win in Jose Mourinho's first return to the club he once managed, Al Jazeera reported from AFP and AP copy.

Mbappe's equaliser came on his 100th Champions League appearance. At 27 he is the youngest player to reach that mark, and the goal was his 72nd in the competition, taking him past Raul into the all-time top five. He had a second goal ruled out for offside.

How Roma lost a game they controlled

Roma, playing their first home Champions League match in more than seven years, started on top. Mario Hermoso forced a fingertip save from Thibaut Courtois before De Roon opened the scoring, and Malen nearly made it 2-0 when his shot squirmed under Courtois and was cleared off the line.

The equaliser came from a Roma error: Hermoso misjudged an interception and let Mbappe run clear. Gian Piero Gasperini's side did not change their attacking approach after half-time, and half-time substitute Rodrigo Mora set up Malen's first goal. Malen's second, initially flagged offside, stood after VAR.

Then Real's set pieces took over. Espi tucked in a rebound after a header, Endrick headed in two minutes later, and Rudiger, a former Roma defender, finished at close range in the 90th minute.
