Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine kills at least 6, cuts power in Kyiv days after Trump's 'energy ceasefire'
Zelensky says Russia broke the energy truce and that Western partners gave no early warning. Russia says Ukraine sent 902 drones overnight.

A Russian ballistic missile and drone attack overnight into Wednesday, 14 October, killed at least six people across Ukraine and knocked out power in parts of Kyiv, Al Jazeera reported, days after US President Donald Trump announced an "energy ceasefire" between the two sides.
Where people were killed
- Kyiv: two killed in a strike on a multistorey building in Desnianskyi district, one in Holosiivskyi district, according to the state emergency service.
- Dnipropetrovsk region: two killed and six wounded, the Ukrainian military said.
- Zaporizhzhia region: one killed.
Missiles were also reported over Kharkiv and Zhytomyr regions, and Sumy and Chernihiv were struck.
Power cuts
Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said energy facilities in and around the capital were hit by a massive ballistic missile strike and told residents to stay in shelters. DTEK, Ukraine's largest private power company, ordered emergency cuts in several districts. CNBC reported about 600,000 people without power.
Russia's Defence Ministry called it a "massive" strike on communications and energy infrastructure.
The ceasefire question
President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack broke the energy ceasefire announced on Sunday and showed "open disrespect" toward the United States. He also said Ukraine got no early warning from Western partners and saw the ballistic missiles only as they neared Kyiv.
Ukraine's drones
On the Russian side, Saratov governor Roman Busargin said a Ukrainian drone killed one person in Balakovo, home to a nuclear plant, a hydropower station and a Sberbank data centre. Moscow's mayor said nearly 500 drones were downed on the way to the capital; Russia's military put the night's total at 902.

The war, now in its fifth year, keeps oil and wheat markets on edge alongside the Gulf crisis, and both feed into Pakistan's fuel and flour prices. Track them on our petrol price page.
