Customs sets new almond import values: $3.81 a kg for shelled, $2.19 soft-shell, $1.41 hard-shell
Valuation Ruling 2111/2026 from Customs Valuation Karachi replaces the 2024 ruling and applies to almonds from every country. Here is what it means in rupees as winter dry-fruit season starts.

Pakistan Customs has issued new import values for almonds: USD 3.81 a kg for shelled almonds, USD 2.19 for soft-shell and USD 1.41 for hard-shell, under Valuation Ruling No. 2111/2026 from the Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi, Business Recorder reported on Monday. The ruling applies to almonds from all countries and replaces Ruling No. 1927/2024 of 5 December 2024. A later ruling, No. 2065/2026, had been set aside on revision in June.
Almond import values in rupees
At today's interbank dollar rate of about Rs 277, the new customs values work out to:
| Type | Customs value (USD/kg) | In rupees (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Shelled almonds (giri) | 3.81 | Rs 1,055 a kg |
| Soft-shell almonds | 2.19 | Rs 607 a kg |
| Hard-shell almonds | 1.41 | Rs 391 a kg |
These are the values on which customs duty, sales tax and other import charges are calculated, not the price you pay in a shop. Freight, duties, wholesale margins in markets like Karachi's Jodia Bazaar and retail mark-ups all come on top. Business Recorder's report does not give the old values, so the size of the change cannot yet be worked out.
Why it matters
- A floor for import tax. Customs uses ruling values to assess goods, so importers declaring lower invoice prices will be taxed on these figures.
- Timing: demand for dry fruit rises in winter and in the wedding season, and importers usually pass higher landed costs on within weeks.
- All origins: the ruling covers almonds from every country equally.
For shoppers and traders
If you buy dry fruit in bulk for a shop or an event, compare wholesale quotes this month against last month's and ask whether stock was cleared at the old value. Traders working out tax on imported goods can use our sales tax calculator, and anyone converting dollar quotes can use the currency converter.
