Quantum Data signs deal with China's Great Power to assemble lithium battery storage in Pakistan
The former Chakwal Spinning Mills told the PSX it will gradually take on local assembly of home, commercial and utility-scale battery systems.
Quantum Data Technologies (QTECH), the listed company once known as Chakwal Spinning Mills, has signed a framework agreement with China's Guangzhou Great Power Energy & Technology to bring lithium battery storage systems to Pakistan and gradually assemble them here. The company disclosed the deal in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Wednesday, 14 October, Business Recorder reported.
What the deal covers
The agreement is described as a strategic cooperation and market development framework. QTECH plans to introduce, and then step by step take on local assembly of, lithium-based battery energy storage systems, including:
- residential and commercial battery packs;
- industrial and utility-scale storage;
- systems for data centres, AI infrastructure, EV charging and other heavy power users.
The notice gives no deal value, investment figure, production capacity, site or start date.
Who the partners are
Great Power is listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, with a market value of about $4 billion (roughly Rs 1.1 trillion at Rs 277 to the dollar) on 13 October. It makes batteries for energy storage, electric vehicles, consumer electronics and smart-home products, and sells in China and abroad.
QTECH was incorporated in 1988 as a public company. It changed its name and moved into IT and IT-enabled services, and says reliable power is essential for Pakistan's technology growth.
Why it matters
Pakistan's solar boom has pushed demand for home batteries up sharply, and almost all of them are imported. ProPakistani noted that QTECH is the latest company to announce battery production plans with a Chinese partner. Local assembly could shorten supply chains and, in time, lower prices, though nothing has been said yet about price.
If you are sizing a battery for your own solar system, our battery backup calculator shows how many hours a battery will run your load, and the solar payback calculator works out how quickly the whole system pays for itself. Panel prices are tracked on the solar panel price page.
