16 September, eliminator against Barbados Tridents: 112 off 49 balls, his maiden T20 hundred.

He was Player of the Series. He was the leading run-scorer with 258 runs in five innings and took seven wickets at an economy rate of 4.30. That combination, top-order runs plus containing left-arm spin, is what makes him useful in a T20 XI rather than just another middle-order bat.

What to watch next

1. The Sri Lanka T20Is. Pakistan's next home white-ball cricket is the three T20Is against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on 9, 11 and 13 October, followed by the ODI tri-series with Sri Lanka and England from 18 October. A CPL final hundred a month before a home series is good timing.
2. Whether he bowls. His ODI bowling average of 13.00 is off three wickets and means very little, but his List A record of 20 wickets at 30.30 is real. A batter who can bowl four overs of left-arm spin gets picked ahead of one who cannot.
3. The red-ball record. 1,451 first-class runs at 38.18 in 25 matches is solid without forcing anything. He is 21, so that number has years to move.
