Prices now change every day
This is not the old fortnightly review. According to Dawn, fuel prices are now fixed on a daily basis because of swings in international prices after renewed hostilities between Iran and the US. That means today's rates can change again tomorrow, up or down.
Dawn also reports that the government continues to collect Rs 114 a litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs 100 a litre on diesel. For context, Dawn notes petrol peaked at Rs 458.41 and diesel at Rs 520.35 on 3 April 2026, so both are still well below that high.
What it means for you
- Motorcyclists and car owners pay more today. The rise is small per litre, but it adds up on a daily commute.
- Transporters, farmers and generator users get a slight cut on diesel. Diesel drives the cost of moving atta, vegetables and goods, so its daily moves matter more to prices in the bazaar than petrol's.
- Do not queue to beat a change. With prices now set daily, filling up early rarely saves more than a few rupees.
Track the price day by day
Our petrol price page and diesel price page follow Pakistan State Oil's ex-depot Karachi price as published by PSO, with the history and a tank-cost table. PSO's ex-depot figure can update on a different schedule from the government announcement, so for what you pay at the pump today, use the notified price in this story.
