Overseas Pakistanis have now sent $14.16 billion through Roshan Digital Accounts (RDAs) since the scheme opened in September 2020, the highest total yet, after $251 million came in during September 2026, according to State Bank of Pakistan figures reported by ProPakistani on Monday 12 October. The number of accounts reached 975,602, so the scheme is within about 25,000 of one million accounts.

Where the $14.16 billion went

UseAmount (cumulative, end-September 2026)
Spent or invested inside Pakistan (local use)$8.94 billion
Net investments (Naya Pakistan Certificates, shares)$2.27 billion
Taken back abroad (repatriated)$2.15 billion
Sitting in RDA balances$725 million

Within the $2.27 billion of net investment, Islamic Naya Pakistan Certificates hold $1.38 billion, conventional Naya Pakistan Certificates $740 million, and Roshan equity investment in the stock market $153 million. The scheme's net repatriable liability, money the country may have to let account holders take out in dollars, rose about $65 million in the month to $3.07 billion.

Repatriation slowed: only $16 million left the country in September, down from $23 million in August.

Why it matters

RDA money counts toward the State Bank's foreign reserves, and the $8.94 billion used locally is foreign currency the country did not have to borrow. At today's interbank dollar rate, September's $251 million is about Rs 6,950 million (roughly Rs 695 crore).

If you are an overseas Pakistani thinking of opening one

  • An RDA is opened online with a Pakistani bank, without visiting a branch, by any non-resident Pakistani with a CNIC, NICOP or POC.
  • You can hold it in rupees or a foreign currency, and money can be sent back abroad without SBP permission.
  • Naya Pakistan Certificates pay a fixed return in dollars, pounds, euros or rupees; check the bank's current rate sheet before you invest, as rates change.
