Free scooty riding training for women in Lahore: two-day course at Liberty, Greater Iqbal Park, LOS and Manawan

Women in Lahore who want to learn to ride a scooty can now do it for free. Lahore Traffic Police have announced a free two-day scooter riding course for female students, Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Sheerazi said on Saturday, as reported by ProPakistani.

Where the training happens

The course runs at the traffic police's scooty driving schools in:

• Liberty (Gulberg)
• Greater Iqbal Park
• LOS, Ferozepur Road, where a free women's course is already running
• Manawan

Each centre has a separate "Gen Z counter" for female students, the CTO said.

What you learn in two days

Instructors teach practical riding, safe driving and traffic rules. The police say the aim is to make female students "self-reliant" on the road, so that getting to college or work does not depend on a lift, a rickshaw or a ride-hailing fare.

Schools and colleges can book a session

Schools and colleges can contact Lahore Traffic Police to arrange a special session for their students, and officers in charge have been told to hold free sessions. If your college is interested, ask the principal's office to get in touch with the nearest traffic police centre.

The police have not published a sign-up form or helpline for the course. The simplest route is to walk in at one of the centres above with your student card and ask at the women's counter.

Next step: a licence

The training is not a licence. Once you can ride, you still need a learner permit and a motorcycle licence from the traffic police. More than two lakh (200,000) motorcycle licences have been issued in Lahore this year, the CTO said, and he added that special road safety measures for women riders are under way.
