Naan price in Lahore up Rs 5 to Rs 35 as tandoors pay more for LPG and maida; roti stays Rs 20
The Naanbai Association blames gas load-shedding, which has pushed tandoor owners onto costlier LPG, and a Rs 3,000 jump in a sack of maida. Here is what it adds to a family's monthly bill.

The naan price in Lahore has gone up by Rs 5, from Rs 30 to Rs 35 for a plain naan, the city's Naanbai Association announced on Sunday 18 October 2026, ARY News reported. The roti price in Lahore is unchanged at Rs 20, association president Aftab Gill said.
Why tandoors raised the naan price
Gill gave two reasons, both about the cost of making bread rather than selling it:
- Gas load-shedding. With piped gas cut for long hours, tandoor owners say they have had to switch to LPG, which costs them far more per day of baking.
- Maida (fine flour). The price of a sack of plain maida has risen by Rs 3,000 per 80 kg, which works out to about Rs 37.50 more per kilogram.
The LPG part of that bill has been climbing everywhere. The official Ogra price for an 11.8 kg domestic cylinder is Rs 3,296 for October, but cylinders have been selling for around Rs 5,000 in the market (our LPG price story). A commercial tandoor burns through cylinders quickly, so a gap of that size lands directly on the price of a naan.
What Rs 5 a naan adds up to
The increase is about 17% on each naan. For a household that buys naan every day, it adds up:
| Naans a day | Extra cost a day | Extra cost a month (30 days) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Rs 10 | Rs 300 |
| 4 | Rs 20 | Rs 600 |
| 6 | Rs 30 | Rs 900 |
| 10 | Rs 50 | Rs 1,500 |
A family switching some meals from naan to roti saves Rs 15 a piece at the new prices. For a dhaba or small restaurant buying 100 naans a day, the rise is Rs 500 a day, or about Rs 15,000 a month, which is the kind of cost that usually ends up on the menu.
Is the new price official?
The announcement comes from the traders' association, not the district administration. ARY did not report any response from the Lahore deputy commissioner's office or the Punjab government, which have in the past fixed and enforced roti and naan prices through price-control magistrates. If the administration notifies a different rate, that rate is the one a shop can be fined for breaking; we will update this page if it does.
