Update, Tuesday 27 October 2026, 3:45pm PKT: M-4 diverted towards Pindi Bhattian

Motorway status today: one diversion is in force on the M-4 (Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad). The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has diverted traffic heading towards Pindi Bhattian off the motorway at Faisalabad Interchange (Km 238), according to an NHMP advisory reported by ProPakistani on Tuesday. The opposite carriageway, from Pindi Bhattian towards Faisalabad, stays open. We found no other NHMP closure notice for today when we updated this page.

The M-4 diversion route: leave the motorway at Faisalabad Interchange, take the Chiniot-Pindi Bhattian Road, and re-enter at Pindi Bhattian Interchange, where the M-4 meets the M-2 to Lahore and Islamabad. NHMP has not said why the diversion was put in place or how long it will last. Allow extra time on the road, and work out the extra fuel for the detour with our fuel cost calculator.

Crash near Bhera Wala Interchange. Separately, two people were killed and four injured on Tuesday when an ambulance and a car collided on the M-4 near Bhera Wala Interchange, close to Pindi Bhattian, ARY News reported, citing Rescue 1122. The ambulance was taking a patient to Faisalabad. The report did not say whether traffic was held up.

NHMP helpline 130: how to check motorway status

  1. Call 130, the NHMP helpline, for the live status of any motorway or national highway and for help on the road. An NHMP spokesperson gave the number in an earlier fog advisory reported by ARY News.
  2. Check NHMP's official accounts and the NHMP website before a long trip, especially early in the morning in winter, when fog regularly closes motorway sections.
  3. When a section is closed, NHMP sends traffic onto the nearest national highway or link road and names the interchanges for leaving and rejoining. Follow the signs and the officers at the interchange.

Fog season: what to expect

In winter NHMP closes motorway sections for fog for hours at a time, usually overnight and in the early morning, and reopens them once visibility improves, as it did on the M-1, M-2, M-4 and M-5 in January 2024 (Geo News). In past fog advisories it has asked drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, use fog lights front and back, and travel between 10am and 6pm when visibility is better.

Earlier closures

The M-1 Islamabad to Peshawar motorway reopened in September after a five-day closure. This page keeps each day's closures below the latest update, so you can see what changed.
