Update, Monday 12 October 2026, 7am PKT: weather today. Weather today (Monday 12 October): rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in most of upper and central Punjab, and at places in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, with heavy rain and hail possible at some places, the Met Office said, Business Recorder reported. That is wetter than Sunday's outlook, which had Monday mostly dry in Punjab. Southern areas, including Karachi and Sindh, stay dry.

  • Morning temperatures: Karachi 28C, Lahore 25C, Islamabad and Peshawar 21C, Muzaffarabad 18C, Quetta 16C, Murree 11C, Gilgit 10C.
  • Schools are open in Punjab today: a viral holiday notice was fake (details); allow extra time for the school run if storms hit your city.
  • Next: KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir stay in the wet spell until Thursday 15 October. Pakistan play Sri Lanka in the 3rd T20I in Rawalpindi on Tuesday at 6pm PKT (fixtures).
  • Solar panels: wind and hail can crack panels and loosen mounts; check yours after a storm with our solar panel calculator if you need to plan a replacement.

Update, Sunday 11 October 2026, 7am PKT: weather today. Weather today (Sunday 11 October): rain, windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated hail are likely at places in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha and the rest of north and central Punjab, and in Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal and Khanewal, the Met Office said in its latest outlook, Business Recorder reported. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir stay in the wet spell until Thursday 15 October, with gaps; Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel in Balochistan may also get storms today. Karachi and Sindh stay hot and dry.

  • Next rain days in Punjab and Islamabad: today, then Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 October. Monday should be mostly dry in Punjab.
  • Pakistan vs Sri Lanka tonight: the 2nd T20I in Rawalpindi starts at 6pm PKT (toss 5:30pm) on a day when storms are forecast at places in the twin cities, so a delay is possible. Fixtures and results are on our Pakistan vs Sri Lanka page.
  • Take care: the Met Office again warned that wind, hail and lightning can damage weak roofs and walls, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels, and that hail may hit standing crops in the Punjab and KP plains.

Update, Friday 9 October 2026, 10:45pm PKT: weather tomorrow and the week ahead. Weather tomorrow (Saturday 10 October): a new westerly wave enters the upper parts of the country from Saturday and is likely to stay until Thursday 15 October, bringing rain, windstorms and thunderstorms with isolated hail to Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Islamabad, with gaps in between, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said in a press release on Friday, Dawn reported. The PDMAs of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have issued their own alerts for heavy rain and thunderstorms from tomorrow through Thursday, Radio Pakistan reported.

Storms are forecast at isolated places, so not every district will get rain on every one of those days. Daytime temperatures are expected to fall by 2 to 4°C, and light snow is possible on the high mountains and glaciers.

Karachi: no rain. The PMD expects hotter days from Monday 12 October, with highs of 36 to 38°C, still within the normal range for October, Geo News reported. On Friday morning the PMD recorded 24°C in Islamabad, 25°C in Lahore, 27°C in Karachi, 23°C in Peshawar and 15°C in Quetta, Radio Pakistan reported.

What to do: the PMD warned that wind, hail and lightning can damage electric poles, solar panels and the roofs and walls of kacha houses, and that hail may hit standing crops in the plains of Punjab and KP, so farmers should plan around the rain days above. Going to the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I in Rawalpindi on Sunday 11 October at 6pm? Sunday is not one of Islamabad's forecast rain days, but check this page on the day (match details). Live conditions for your city are on our weather page, for example Lahore weather.

Earlier, Tuesday 6 October 2026, 10am: the PMD's forecast issued on Tuesday keeps the same picture for weather today and tomorrow: scattered rain, windstorms and thunderstorms, with isolated hail, in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and 20 other Punjab districts on 6 and 7 October, and across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until Wednesday, The Express Tribune reported. Balochistan's Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel may get storms on Tuesday evening or night; Karachi and the rest of Sindh stay hot and dry.

Weather today and tomorrow (Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October 2026): rain, windstorms and thunderstorms, with hail in places, are forecast for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, northern and central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on 6 and 7 October, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) first said on Monday. A westerly wave is behind it, and daytime temperatures are expected to fall by 2 to 4°C. Karachi and the rest of Sindh stay mainly hot and dry, as does most of Balochistan, Dawn reported.

Where rain is forecast on 6 and 7 October

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (from Monday evening to Wednesday): Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Swat, Dir, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram and Waziristan.

"Isolated" means not every district gets rain: in Lahore and the plains of Punjab, expect scattered storms rather than a wet day.

What to watch out for

The PMD warned that windstorms, hail and lightning may damage weak structures, including the roofs and walls of kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels. If you have panels on the roof, check the mounting bolts today, and park away from billboards and trees in a storm. Farmers have been told to plan crop work around the forecast.

The weather lands on a busy week in the north: the PTI convoy is on the road in KP, and Pakistan and Sri Lanka begin practice at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday before the first T20I on Friday 9 October (Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2026). The forecast runs to Wednesday, so Friday's match is not yet covered by it.

Today and tomorrow in your city

Hour-by-hour temperature, rain chance and wind for each city are on our weather pages: Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi, or all cities. Lahore residents can also track air quality on our AQI Lahore today page, since rain usually brings the AQI down for a day or two.

With power shortfalls in the news this week, a storm can mean longer outages too: our battery backup calculator shows how long a UPS will last on your load.
