The Capital Development Authority (CDA) says it has recovered government land worth about Rs 1.3 trillion in Islamabad in its drive against illegal occupation, ProPakistani reported on Friday, citing the authority.

Where the land was recovered

AreaWhat the CDA recovered
Near the Prime Minister's Houseabout 600 acres of government land
Sector E-121,135 kanals, clearing the way for development stalled for decades
Sector C-17illegal commercial buildings on 116.8 kanals demolished
Malpur, Murree Roadfive plazas vacated; work under way to recover another 108 kanals

The operations are being run on the orders of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and led by CDA chairman Sohail Ashraf. The authority said it is checking land records, ownership papers and legal requirements as it goes, and that the aim is to protect public property and restart planned development.

How big is Rs 1.3 trillion?

The CDA did not publish how it valued the land, so the figure is its own estimate rather than an auction or market price. A kanal is 20 marla; convert kanals, marla and acres for any plot with our plot size converter.

What it means if you own or are buying in these sectors

  • E-12 allottees have waited years for possession; recovering 1,135 kanals is the step that lets roads and services go in. We reported earlier this month on plot handovers in E-12 and C-14.
  • Buyers anywhere in Islamabad's outer sectors should check a plot's ownership against CDA records before paying; land on a CDA acquisition map can be cleared even when buildings stand on it, as the Malpur plazas show.
  • Work out duties on a purchase with the stamp duty calculator and the property tax calculator.
