Pakistan at Asian Games 2026: PUBG bronze is medal 5, semis on Thursday

Updated Tuesday 29 September 2026, 7:30pm PKT. Pakistan's fifth medal: bronze in PUBG Mobile. The esports team of Mohammad Huzaifa, Shayan Asad, Falak Sher, Hasnain Rehman and Syed Sameer finished third with 100 points after 12 matches at the Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, behind Thailand (gold, 128) and China (silver, 114), Dawn reported. Vietnam and Indonesia tied on 95, just behind Pakistan. It is Pakistan's first esports medal of these Games and takes the count to five bronzes.

Thursday 1 October is Pakistan's biggest day of the Games:

Volleyball: Pakistan were already through to the quarter-finals after two wins from two, The Express Tribune reported, and played hosts Japan in their last Pool A match on Tuesday; the quarter-finals are on 1 October. Long jump: Anser Abbas finished 12th of 12 in Monday's final with 7.09m, Dawn reported. Squash, team events: the men beat the Philippines and Kuwait 3-0 and the women beat Mongolia 3-0.

Also on Tuesday, away from the Games: the Pakistan football team drew 2-2 with the Philippines for its first ever point at a FIFA tournament (report).

Earlier, Monday 28 September: Arshad Nadeem finished fourth in the javelin final with 80.29m in heavy rain in Nagoya, fouling his last three throws. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won gold with 88.55m and India's Yashvir Singh (85.72m) and Rohit Yadav (84.35m) took silver and bronze. Muhammad Yasir was ninth with 73.50m. Hockey: Pakistan into the semi-finals, India next. Pakistan beat Oman 7-2, with a Rana Waheed hat-trick, two penalty-corner goals from Sufyan Khan (11 in the tournament), and one each from Ghazanfar Ali and Mohammad Ammad. They finish second in Pool B behind Malaysia and play India in the semi-final on Thursday 1 October.

Volleyball: two from two. Pakistan beat Uzbekistan 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-20). Captain Murad Jehan scored 14 points, Musawer Khan 13 and Mohammad Hamad 11. Before the match the team bus took the players to the wrong gymnasium, and Murad criticised the organisers afterwards. Hosts Japan are next on Tuesday.

Cricket: rain washed out Pakistan's quarter-final against Hong Kong without a toss, so Pakistan went through on ranking. Semi-final: Thursday 1 October at 5am PKT against Bangladesh or Malaysia. Full schedule: Asian Games cricket in Pakistan time.

Monday 28 September, Pakistan's day:

Long jump: Anser reached the 12-man final in 12th place, the last qualifying spot, with 7.28m in Sunday's qualifying round, his best jump abroad (he has jumped 7.69m at the National Games in Karachi). Hong Kong's Wong Pak Hang also cleared 7.28m but missed out in 13th. Uzbekistan's Anvar Anvarov led qualifying with 8.00m, ahead of India's Murali Sreeshankar (7.84m) and Japan's Yuki Hashioka (7.74m).

Squash, third place: on Sunday Noor Zaman beat Ashab Irfan 11-7, 11-7, 13-11 in 26 minutes in an all-Pakistan third-place play-off at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena. Both had already secured bronze by reaching the semi-finals, so the play-off decided the order, not the medals: Pakistan keep two squash bronzes and four bronzes in all.

Earlier, Sunday 27 September: Pakistan's volleyball team opened with a 3-1 win over Kazakhstan (25-16, 25-22, 17-25, 25-20) at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium, with Murad Khan scoring 21 points, 17 of them from spikes, The Express Tribune and Dawn reported. Long jumper Anser Abbas reached the final with 7.28m, 12th and last of the qualifiers. In tennis, Aqeel Khan and Mohammad Shoaib won their men's doubles opener 6-2, 6-0 against Mongolia, while Mahin Aftab Qureshi lost her women's singles first round 1-6, 1-6 to Thailand's Patcharin Cheapchandej. The medal count stays at four bronzes.

Earlier, Saturday 26 September: Noor Zaman and Ashab Irfan both lost their squash semi-finals in straight games and took bronze, Noor to Malaysia's top seed Eain Yow Ng and Ashab to India's Abhay Singh. Malaysia beat Pakistan 5-4 in hockey despite four penalty-corner goals from Sufyan Khan. Sprinter Shajar Abbas reached the 200m semi-finals, third in his heat in 21.23 seconds.

Earlier, Friday 25 September: Noor and Ashab won their quarter-finals to guarantee two medals.

Pakistan's medals

Live medal chances still to come: hockey and men's cricket (both semi-finals on Thursday 1 October) and volleyball (quarter-finals). Arshad Nadeem finished fourth in the javelin.

Hockey: semi-final against India on Thursday

Pakistan are in Pool B with China, Malaysia, Oman, Thailand and Uzbekistan. All matches are at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara. The Asian Games champion qualifies directly for the 2028 Olympics, and Pakistan have missed the last four.

Against Malaysia it was 3-3 after three quarters. Sufyan Khan's fourth penalty-corner goal put Pakistan 4-3 up in the last quarter, but Malaysia scored twice in the final five minutes. Sufyan now has 9 goals in 4 matches. Before Monday's matches Malaysia led Pool B with 12 points, with Pakistan and China on 9 each (Pakistan ahead on goal difference, +15 against +8); China play Malaysia on Monday, so beating Oman keeps Pakistan in control of second place. The top two go to the semi-finals on Thursday 1 October (12:30pm and 3:00pm PKT), which cross over (Pool B runner-up against the Pool A winner), and the final is on Saturday 3 October. Volleyball: into the quarter-finals

Pakistan are in Pool A with Japan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Sixteen teams play in four pools, and the top two in each go to the quarter-finals on 1 October; the semi-finals are on 2 October and the medal matches on 3 October.

Murad Khan (21 points), Usman Faryad Ali (14) and Murad Jehan (11) led the scoring in a match that lasted 1 hour 26 minutes. The team manager said Pakistan should have won 3-0. Beating Uzbekistan on Monday would put Pakistan close to a quarter-final place before they meet the hosts.

Javelin: Arshad Nadeem fourth

Arshad threw 76.69m, a foul, then 80.29m in the third round, and fouled his last three attempts on a wet runway. Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage (Sri Lanka) won with 88.55m on his final throw, ahead of India's Yashvir Singh (85.72m) and Rohit Yadav (84.35m). Muhammad Yasir finished ninth with 73.50m. Kabaddi: out after Iran defeat

Pakistan trailed Iran 14-20 at half-time and were outscored 16-31 after the break. Iran and Thailand go through from the group, and the semi-finals are Iran vs Chinese Taipei and India vs Thailand. Pakistan had won two silver and seven bronze medals in kabaddi at the nine previous Games. Against Thailand on Wednesday they had led 23-16 at half-time and lost the second half 22-32.

Cricket

Women: bronze. Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 31 runs in the bronze play-off on 22 September (145 for 8 against 114). Fatima Sana made 45 and Umm-e-Hani took 3 for 10. Two days earlier Sri Lanka had beaten them by 8 wickets in the semi-final, chasing 178 with 13 balls to spare.

Men: into the semi-finals without playing. Pakistan had a bye through the group stage, and their quarter-final against Hong Kong on Monday 28 September was abandoned without a toss, so they went through as the higher-ranked side. The semi-final is Thursday 1 October at 5am PKT against Bangladesh or Malaysia. India also went through after their quarter-final against Afghanistan was washed out. Captain Sahibzada Farhan, leading a young squad, said on Thursday he is not worried about its inexperience and is open to staying on as T20I captain after the Games. Squash: two bronzes

The Asian Games gives a bronze to both losing semi-finalists. Noor was the third seed and Ashab the fifth. The men's singles final, Abhay Singh against Eain Yow Ng, is on Sunday 27 September at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena.

• Rowing: Asad Iqbal missed Final A and races in Final B on Thursday.
• Equestrian: Usman Khan finished 16th in individual eventing.
• Swimming: no Pakistani swimmer has reached a final. Hamza Asif went out in the 50m and 100m freestyle heats, and Hareem Malik finished 22nd of 25 in the 100m breaststroke.
• Fencing: Baryal Khan (foil) and Mohammad Ejaz Nauman (sabre) each lost all five pool bouts.
• Table tennis and soft tennis: first-round exits across the board.
• Boxing: Sumama Rehman went out in the 55kg preliminaries. On Saturday Fatima Zehra lost to Tajikistan's Mijgona Samadova, and Irfan Khan was stopped in the second round by South Korea's Gichae Kim.
• Badminton: national champion Mahoor Shahzad lost in the first round to Indonesia's Putri Kusuma Wardani, 21-5, 21-11.
• Tennis: Aqeel Khan and Mohammad Shoaib are through to the second round of the men's doubles after a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mongolia. Mahin Aftab Qureshi lost in the first round of the women's singles.
• Athletics: Anser Abbas finished 12th in the men's long jump final with 7.09m, after 7.28m in qualifying. Shajar Abbas reached the men's 200m semi-finals, third in his heat in 21.23 seconds. Arshad Nadeem finished fourth in the javelin with 80.29m.
