Zheng Qinwen beats Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 to win China Open, her first WTA 1000 title
The Olympic champion, back from an elbow injury and ranked 54th, became the first Chinese player to win in Beijing. Next stop: the Wuhan Open, starting today.

Zheng Qinwen won the China Open on Sunday 11 October 2026, beating Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 in the final in Beijing, Business Recorder reported. It is her first WTA 1000 title, her first trophy of the year, and it makes her the first Chinese player to win the China Open.
How the final was won
- First set, 7-5: Zheng was 5-4 down and facing three break points. She saved all three, then broke Andreeva to take the set.
- Second set, 6-4: At 4-4 Andreeva saved three break points, but Zheng broke again and served out the match, finishing with an ace.
Andreeva is the world No. 5. Zheng came into the week ranked 54th.
A comeback from injury
Zheng, the 2024 Olympic champion and a former US Open quarter-finalist, missed much of last year and the start of 2026 with an injury to the elbow of her right (playing) arm. At this same tournament last year she had to retire after aggravating it. She said after the final that winning in Beijing was incredible and called it "one of my dreams", Business Recorder reported.
What comes next
The Wuhan Open starts on Monday 12 October, and Zheng is aiming to climb back into the top 20 if she keeps this form. Wuhan is three hours ahead of Pakistan, so a 1 pm local start is 10 am PKT.
