There is no app that pays you for doing nothing. Real online income in Pakistan comes from selling a skill, content or a product to someone who actually pays for it. This guide covers five routes that work, how the money lands in a Pakistani bank account in rupees, PSEB registration, the 2026-27 tax rates and the scams to avoid.

One rule before anything else: if a website or app asks you to deposit money before you can "earn", it is not a job.

1. Freelancing on Upwork, Fiverr and similar platforms

Freelancing is the most common route for Pakistanis with a skill such as writing, graphic design, web development, video editing, bookkeeping or spreadsheet work.

  1. Pick one skill you can deliver this week. Do not list ten services. Clients hire specialists.
  2. Build 3 to 5 samples. A portfolio beats any certificate. Make mock projects if you have no clients yet.
  3. Open your profile in your real name, as it appears on your CNIC. Platforms verify identity, and a mismatch can block withdrawals later.
  4. Read the platform's current fee page. Every marketplace keeps a share of what you bill, so price your work with that cut in mind.
  5. Start small. Bid on short, clearly defined jobs, deliver early and ask for a review.
  6. Keep chat and payment on the platform. Clients who push you to WhatsApp and outside payment are a common source of fraud and account bans.
  7. Withdraw to Payoneer or a Pakistani bank account (see the payments section below).

2. YouTube and other content monetisation

Pakistan is on YouTube's list of countries where the YouTube Partner Program is available. To share ad revenue, YouTube's eligibility page requires either 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million valid Shorts views in the last 90 days.

  1. Choose a topic you can publish on every week for a year.
  2. Upload on a fixed schedule and track which videos keep viewers watching.
  3. Use only music, clips and images you have rights to. Copyright strikes can end monetisation.
  4. Once you cross the threshold, apply in YouTube Studio and link an AdSense account in your own name.
  5. Receive payments into your own bank account, because tax is now deducted at the bank (see the tax section).

3. Selling on Daraz or your own online store

  1. Start with products you can source reliably in your city, at a price that leaves room for commission, packaging and returns.
  2. Register in Daraz Seller Center and complete the verification it asks for.
  3. Photograph products yourself and write honest descriptions. Returns eat margins fast.
  4. List a few products, watch which ones sell, then add stock.
  5. Keep purchase invoices. You will need them for your tax return.

4. Online tutoring

  1. Pick subjects you can teach well: school and O/A level subjects, English, Quran, coding or exam prep.
  2. Start with students you can reach directly (family networks, local Facebook groups) and take fees by bank transfer or mobile wallet.
  3. To teach abroad, join an established tutoring marketplace that pays through the platform, not through a private deposit scheme.
  4. Invest in a headset and a stable internet backup before you invest in ads.

5. Remote jobs with foreign or Pakistani companies

  1. Search company career pages and LinkedIn for roles marked remote that accept candidates in Pakistan.
  2. Get a written contract that states pay, currency and payment method.
  3. Never pay a "registration", "training" or "visa" fee to get hired. Real employers do not charge applicants.

How the money reaches Pakistan

  • Freelancer Digital Account (FDA) and ESFCA. Under the State Bank's framework for freelancers' accounts (BPRD Circular 05 of 2023, 23 October 2023), banks can open an Exporters' Special Foreign Currency Account (ESFCA) with a linked rupee account, in person or digitally. PSEB lists 50% retention in an ESFCA as a benefit for registered freelancers, which lets you keep part of your earnings in dollars.
  • Limits vary by bank. For example, Standard Chartered says its FDA carries a monthly debit and credit limit of USD 5,000 and can be opened through its app in 2 days. Ask your own bank for its limits.
  • Payoneer. Most marketplaces pay into Payoneer, which lets you withdraw in rupees to a local bank. Payoneer and Meezan Bank offer real-time USD to PKR withdrawal inside the Meezan app.
  • JazzCash and Easypaisa. Useful for local clients and students. Wallet limits depend on your account level, so check the app before you ask a client to send a large amount.

Always use banking channels in your own name. PSEB renewal asks for a summary of export revenue with the IT/ITeS code, so inflows that come in through informal channels will not count. Check today's rate on the dollar to rupee page.

Register with PSEB as a freelancer

The Pakistan Software Export Board's freelance programme page sets out four steps:

  1. Sign up on the PSEB portal to get login details.
  2. Fill in the online form and upload your personal NTN (without a business name), both sides of your CNIC and a letter or certificate for your personal bank account.
  3. After initial approval, pay the fee through the payment gateway (PSEB says it accepts no other method) and upload the receipt.
  4. PSEB says it usually takes 2 to 5 working days after payment is verified to issue the certificate.

For renewal, PSEB asks for your export revenue summary with the IT/ITeS code and your income tax return for the previous year. The fee is shown on the portal; we could not confirm the current amount on PSEB's public page.

Tax on online income in 2026-27

The Finance Act 2026 was enacted on 27 June 2026 and applies from 1 July 2026, according to KPMG's brief of the Act (the Act itself is on FBR's budget page).

IncomeRate deducted by the bankNature
Export of software, IT or IT-enabled services, PSEB-registered0.25%Final, subject to conditions
Other services rendered outside Pakistan1%Final, subject to conditions
Revenue from social media platforms (YouTube, TikTok and others)5% (10% if not an active taxpayer)Minimum tax for residents

The 0.25% rate for PSEB-registered exporters has been extended from tax year 2026 to tax year 2029. On Rs 500,000 of IT export receipts, that is Rs 1,250 at 0.25%, against Rs 5,000 at 1%. Content creators would see Rs 25,000 deducted on the same amount at 5%.

File your return even if tax is already deducted. FBR has set 30 September 2026 as the deadline for tax year 2026. Work out your own number with our freelancer tax calculator.

Scams and mistakes to avoid

  • "Earning apps" that ask for a deposit. Apps that pay you to like videos, watch ads or finish "tasks" but first ask you to recharge, buy a package or recruit friends are Ponzi-style schemes. Early payouts come from new victims' money.
  • Fake trading and investment platforms. In January 2026 the SECP named two illegal platforms, Hillhouse Capital/Hillhouse Investment and S-169 Wharton, promoted through WhatsApp groups that misused licensed brokers' names, and told the public not to deposit any funds with them.
  • APK files from links. SECP has warned people not to download apps from websites or links shared by email or social media, and said it had blocked 132 illegal apps with Google, Apple, FIA and PTA.
  • Using someone else's account. Money received in a relative's account is not recorded as your export income, and PSEB registration asks for a bank account in your own name.
  • Paying for "guaranteed income" courses. Learn from free platform guides first. No one can guarantee earnings.
  • Skipping the tax return. Filing keeps you on FBR's active taxpayer list. Under section 154B, creators who are not active taxpayers face 10% instead of 5%.

What to do this week

  1. Choose one route and one skill.
  2. Open a freelancer or ESFCA account in your own name.
  3. Get your NTN and apply to PSEB if you export IT services.
  4. File your tax year 2026 return before 30 September.

Frequently asked questions

Which online earning app in Pakistan is real?
Apps that pay you only for real work, such as freelance marketplaces, YouTube or seller platforms like Daraz, are legitimate. Any app that asks you to deposit money, buy a package or recruit others before you can withdraw is a Ponzi-style scheme, and the SECP has repeatedly told the public not to deposit funds with unlicensed platforms.
How much tax do freelancers pay in Pakistan in 2026-27?
PSEB-registered exporters of software, IT and IT-enabled services have 0.25% deducted by the bank on export receipts, extended to tax year 2029 by the Finance Act 2026. Other exported services face 1%, and income from social media platforms faces 5% (10% for people not on the active taxpayer list).
How long does PSEB freelancer registration take?
PSEB says it usually issues the certificate within 2 to 5 working days after the registration payment is verified. You need a personal NTN, both sides of your CNIC and a bank account letter or certificate.
Can I get YouTube earnings in Pakistan?
Yes. Pakistan is on YouTube's list of Partner Program countries. For ad revenue you need 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 valid public watch hours in 12 months or 10 million valid Shorts views in 90 days.
