Pakistan women take Asian Games bronze: Fatima Sana 45, Umm-e-Hani 3-10 in 31-run win

Pakistan's women beat Bangladesh by 31 runs at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on Tuesday morning to take the bronze medal in the Asian Games T20 cricket. It is Pakistan's second medal of these Games.

Pakistan 145 for 8. Bangladesh 114 all out.

How it was won

Captain Fatima Sana top-scored with 45 off 30 balls, the innings that turned a stalling total into a defendable one. Gull Feroza made 31 off 23 at the top and Aliya Riaz 25 off 22. Bangladesh's spinners kept it tight, Shorna Akter taking 2 for 6 and Nahida Akter 2 for 21.

The chase never got going. Off-spinner Umm-e-Hani finished with 3 for 10, removing two of Bangladesh's top three and squeezing the middle overs. Ayesha Zafar chipped in with 1 for 10. Sharmin Akhter carried her bat for 46 not out off 45, but by then the required rate had gone. Nigar Sultana made 25 off 30.

The 2023 rematch

The fixture had history. At the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Bangladesh beat Pakistan in the bronze play-off. Tuesday reversed it, with the same two teams in the same position in the draw.

Pakistan reached the play-off after losing the semi-final to Sri Lanka by eight wickets on Sunday, when 177 for 4 (Ayesha Zafar 71, Shawaal Zulfiqar 54) was chased down by Chamari Athapaththu's unbeaten 83 with 13 balls to spare. India and Sri Lanka played the final later on Tuesday.
