BIEK warns students: fake board website charged Rs 10,000 a subject to 'clear' papers

The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has warned students and parents about a fake website that impersonated the board and offered to clear failed papers for Rs 10,000 per subject, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The site appeared in Google search results as a results page and pointed students to a WhatsApp helpline. People answering it claimed to be BIEK staff and asked students to transfer money to private bank accounts, promising that a result would be changed or a paper cleared within 24 hours of payment. The site was later taken offline under the pretext of maintenance, after reportedly collecting millions of rupees.

What the board says

BIEK chairman Faqir Muhammad Lakho denied any connection between the board and the website. He said the board had repeatedly reported the site to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and had written formally to the authorities asking for action.

Board officials said no one can change, clear or improve an examination result for money, and told students to confirm every exam matter through official channels only.

How to protect yourself

1. Check results only on the board's own site, reached by typing the address yourself, not through a search advert or a forwarded link.
2. No board employee asks for money on WhatsApp. Fees for rechecking or improvement are paid through the board's published process and a bank challan, never to a personal account.
3. A result cannot be "cleared" by payment. The only routes are rechecking (scrutiny) or sitting the supplementary or improvement exam.
4. Report it. If you were contacted, save the number, chat and account details and report them to the NCCIA's cybercrime complaint portal.
5. Tell classmates. These scams spread in class WhatsApp groups right after results.
