GTA 6 Online is not coming at launch: Take-Two confirms a long wait

Take-Two Interactive used its annual shareholder meeting on 17 September to settle a question that had been argued over for a year. GTA 6, the company said, is a single-player title due to release this November, and it will keep supporting the existing GTA Online after the new game ships. The online mode for GTA 6 is not part of the launch.

The release date is 19 November 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

How long is the wait

Take-Two has not given a date for GTA 6 Online. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier said on a podcast in August that multiplayer details should not be expected anytime soon. Forbes contributor Paul Tassi has estimated one to two years after the single-player launch. Leaked legal documents from a Rockstar dispute referred to a 32-player format. None of that is a Rockstar announcement, and it should not be read as one.

The precedent is not encouraging for the impatient. GTA Online arrived about two weeks after GTA 5 in 2013, but that was a different production, and Rockstar has said nothing to suggest a repeat.

Why this matters more in Pakistan than elsewhere

Online is where Pakistani players live. A single-player campaign is a one-time purchase you finish in a few weeks. GTA Online is the reason the last game stayed in Pakistani internet cafes and bedrooms for twelve years, because it costs nothing extra to keep playing and it is the part your friends are in.

There is a second problem, and it is the bigger one here. There is no PC version. Rockstar's own game page and platform support page list only PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Take-Two's financial reporting names the 19 November date without a PC edition. Every PC date circulating online is a guess.

Pakistan is overwhelmingly a PC gaming market. Consoles arrive through grey imports at prices set by the dollar rate and by customs, not by Sony or Microsoft, and there is no official PlayStation or Xbox retail channel in the country. For most players here, the practical release date for GTA 6 is whenever the PC version is announced, which could be a year or more after November.

What to do about it

If you are planning to buy a console for this, price the whole thing before you commit: the console, the game, a second controller and a year of the online subscription you will need once GTA 6 Online does arrive.
