KSE-100 closes at 165,124, down 1,964 points
PSX today, Monday 12 October 2026: the KSE-100 index closed at 165,124, down 1,964 points or 1.18%, as political uncertainty over the emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa pushed investors to cut their exposure, ProPakistani reported, citing a review by Topline Securities. The index had closed at about 167,089 on Friday, according to the reading on our KSE-100 page.
- Volume: about 363 million shares changed hands, worth roughly Rs 14.5 billion.
- Biggest drags: UBL, OGDC, HBL, Meezan Bank and Lucky Cement together took about 645 points off the index, a third of the day's fall.
- Most active: Treet (27.3 million shares, closing at Rs 24.09), LSEFSLR (20.8 million) and Worldcall Telecom (20.3 million, closing at 97 paisa).
Why the market fell
On Sunday President Asif Ali Zardari approved the federal cabinet's recommendation to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Topline said the uncertainty that followed led investors to reduce their holdings, and ProPakistani described selling as broad-based, with traders cautious in the absence of any positive trigger.
The losses were concentrated in the heavyweights that carry the most weight in the index: three of the biggest banks, the state oil and gas producer OGDC and a leading cement maker. When those fall together, the index moves sharply even if many smaller stocks hold steady.
How far the index has come off its peak
The KSE-100 hit a record 170,866 on 18 September and was above 172,000 a few days later. Monday's close leaves it roughly 4% below that late-September level, a correction rather than a collapse, but the second sharp fall in a short period, which is why the selling is getting attention.
What it means for you
