E-passport fee in the UAE: AED 145 (about Rs 10,900) for 5 years at Abu Dhabi and Dubai missions
Pakistani missions in the UAE started issuing e-passports on 23 October. Here are all eight fees in dirhams and rupees, and how they compare with applying in Pakistan.
Pakistanis in the UAE can now apply for an e-passport at the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai, from Friday 23 October 2026, with the cheapest option, a 36-page passport valid for five years, costing AED 145 (about Rs 10,900) on normal processing, ProPakistani reported. The same day Pakistan stopped issuing the old machine-readable passport and moved to e-passports only (our report).
E-passport fee in the UAE
| Passport | Normal | Urgent |
|---|---|---|
| 36 pages, 5 years | AED 145 (about Rs 10,932) | AED 235 (about Rs 17,717) |
| 36 pages, 10 years | AED 215 (about Rs 16,209) | AED 355 (about Rs 26,763) |
| 72 pages, 5 years | AED 260 (about Rs 19,601) | AED 425 (about Rs 32,041) |
| 72 pages, 10 years | AED 390 (about Rs 29,402) | AED 635 (about Rs 47,873) |
Rupee figures are our arithmetic at today's dirham rate of Rs 75.39; ProPakistani used Rs 76, which gives about Rs 11,020 for the cheapest passport.
Lost passports cost more, depending on pages, validity, speed and whether it is a first or second loss. The top fee is AED 2,540 (about Rs 191,500) for an urgent 72-page, 10-year passport after a second loss.
Is it cheaper to apply at home?
Roughly the same for the basic passport. In Pakistan a normal 36-page, five-year e-passport costs Rs 9,000 and a ten-year one Rs 13,500 (our fee guide), so applying in the UAE costs about Rs 1,900 to Rs 2,700 more on those two options, before you count the cost of a trip home. You can check the full fee for your case with our passport fee calculator.
What UAE residents should know
- Your current passport is still valid. Machine-readable passports stay usable until they expire, so there is no need to rush.
- Renew when less than six months is left. That is the advice from the missions.
- Give both first and last names. Applications need both fields filled in, which trips up people whose old passport shows a single name.
- Apply at the right mission. Abu Dhabi residents go to the embassy, Dubai and the northern emirates to the consulate general. Check the embassy's official fee page before you go, as fees are paid in dirhams.
