Passport fee in Pakistan 2026: MRP and e-passport rates, and how to apply

A normal 36-page, 5-year passport costs Rs 4,500 in Pakistan, and a 10-year e-passport Rs 13,500, according to the fee schedule on the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) website, checked on 16 September 2026. No fee change has been published since 2024. What has changed in 2026 is how you pay and collect: passport offices went cashless on 1 July, home delivery started the same day, and e-passport renewal moved to NADRA centres on 7 September.

Passport fee 2026: machine readable passport (MRP)

E-passport fee

There is no 100-page e-passport, and fast track is not available for e-passports. Children under 15 get 5-year passports only; adults choose 5 or 10 years.

Extra charges: Executive Passport Offices and passport counters at NADRA centres add a NADRA service charge on top, which DGIP does not list. The home delivery charge has not been published either. Ask at the counter before you pay.

A "premium service" fee structure was approved in June 2026, but no amounts had been published by 16 September. If you see a "new passport fee" table online, check it against dgip.gov.pk first.

How long it takes

Courier time to remote areas and to missions abroad is extra. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced in April 2026 that normal delivery would drop to 14 days, but DGIP's own pages still say 21 working days. Plan on 21.

How to apply at a passport office

You can apply at any regional passport office, whatever address is on your CNIC. Offices deal with the public Monday to Thursday from 9am (tokens until 2pm) and Friday from 9am to 12:30pm. RPO G-10/4 Islamabad, RPO Garden Town Lahore and RPO Awami Markaz Karachi work around the clock.

1. Customer service counter. Show your original CNIC or NICOP (a child's CRC or B-Form for under-18s).
2. Photo and token. Your picture is taken and you get a token with a QR code. Check the name, CNIC number, application type and priority on the token immediately. An error found later means going through every stage again.
3. Fingerprints. Four fingers are scanned.
4. Data entry. Give a mobile number and email for status alerts (SMS from 9988). Read the printed form carefully before you sign; once data is saved, any change means a new token and starting again.
5. Checks and interview. Your case is checked against the exit control and black lists, then the Assistant Director approves it.
6. Pay by QR. Since 1 July 2026 offices take no cash. Scan the QR code with EasyPaisa, JazzCash or your banking app. NBP also collects passport fees through Raast QR.
7. Collect on the date given, with your original token. Only you or a blood relative can collect. Choose home delivery at the counter if you prefer.

Leave phones, cameras and weapons at home; they are not allowed inside.

Renewing an e-passport at NADRA

From 7 September 2026, e-passport renewal and reprint are available at NADRA centres, and you can book a slot in the Pak ID app. New passports, data changes and MRPs are still handled at passport offices. NADRA's service charge for this was not listed by DGIP when we checked.

Renewing online

DGIP's e-Services portal (onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk) handles renewals for Pakistanis at home and abroad if:

• your details match your old passport and NADRA record;
• you still have the old passport; and
• it has expired or has one year or less left.

Upload a colour photo on a white background (350x467 pixels, JPEG, under 3MB), pay by credit or debit card, and track progress by email. Overseas Pakistanis can also use the portal for a newborn's first passport (up to age 2), damaged or full passports, a first or second lost passport, and marital status or profession changes. If your fingerprint form is rejected three times, you must visit an office or mission.

Applying from abroad

Apply at your embassy or consulate, or online. Missions charge in local currency and set their own times. For example, the Pakistan High Commission in London lists a 36-page, 5-year MRP at £30 (normal) and £50 (urgent), and the Consulate in Dubai lists AED 110 and AED 180. The UAE e-passport launch announced for July 2026 was postponed, and MRP services continue there. Check your mission's website before you go.

Documents you need

Adults:

• Original CNIC or NICOP, plus a copy
• Old passport and a copy, if you have one
• NOC from your department, if you are a government or semi-government employee
• Foreign passport and a copy, for dual nationals

Children under 18:

• Age 10 and over: updated CRC (with fingerprints and photo) or a Juvenile Card
• Under 10: CRC/B-Form or FRC
• Original CNICs or passports of both parents, plus copies
• A parent or court-appointed guardian must attend. If one parent applies, the other must be present or give consent on attested stamp paper. Bring custody papers or a guardianship certificate where relevant, or a death certificate if a parent has died.
• A data form attested by a gazetted officer, with the officer's stamp, CNIC number and phone number

Every child gets their own passport; children cannot be added to a parent's.

Lost passport: a police report showing the lost passport's number. If you do not know the number, apply in writing at a passport office with copies of your CNIC.

Name or date of birth change: update your CNIC at NADRA first, then apply for the passport with the new CNIC.

A third loss is referred to DGIP headquarters in Islamabad for approval. DGIP's fee chart has the other page counts and 10-year rates.

Mistakes that cost time or money

• Not checking the token. A wrong CNIC number or passport type on the token means starting again.
• Changing your name at the passport office. It has to be changed at NADRA first.
• An unattested child's form, or a missing parent. The case is held until both are sorted.
• Government employees without an NOC.
• Renewing online with more than a year left, or with details that differ from NADRA's record.
• Paying an agent. DGIP warns against agents. Fees go by QR code at the office or by card online, and they are non-refundable.
• Trusting old fee tables. Some sites still list pre-2024 rates or unpublished "premium" fees.
