Karachi roof collapse on Manghopir Road: one dead as shop roof falls during construction
Rescue 1122 pulled three people from the debris on Thursday and feared more were trapped. The Sindh chief minister has asked the SBCA to report on whether negligence was involved.
At least one person was killed when the roof of a corner shop collapsed during construction work near the New Nazimabad flyover on Manghopir Road, Karachi, on Thursday, 5 November 2026, rescue services said.
Rescue 1122's chief operating officer, Dr Abid Shaikh, said three people had been pulled out of the debris and taken to hospital, and that more were feared trapped under the rubble, Dawn reported. Edhi said the man who died, aged 43, was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. ARY News reported six people injured. Search and rescue work was continuing in the afternoon, with Edhi ambulances and volunteers at the site.
Chief minister seeks SBCA report
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice, ordered the debris cleared quickly and told hospitals to give the injured the best treatment. He has asked the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) for a report on what caused the collapse and whether anyone was negligent.
Building collapses this autumn
This is the second such accident in Pakistan in under two weeks: on 27 October one person died and seven were hurt when the roof of a building under construction collapsed near Multan's Northern Bypass.
If you are building or renting
- In Karachi, any new construction or added storey needs an approved plan from the SBCA. You can ask the builder or landlord for the approval number before work starts.
- Report unsafe or unapproved construction to the SBCA's complaint cell, and call Rescue 1122 (or 115 for Edhi) in an emergency.
