Fines on the Lahore Ring Road have gone up as much as tenfold. Driving without a valid licence now costs Rs 5,000, up from Rs 500, and using a mobile phone at the wheel or skipping the seatbelt costs Rs 3,000 instead of Rs 500, ProPakistani reported on Sunday 25 October. The new rates were brought in on the direction of Punjab Ring Road Authority chairperson Safiullah Gondal under the provincial "Safe Roads, Safe Punjab" campaign, and the Ring Road Police have asked motorists to follow the rules.

The report did not give a notification number or a start date, so treat the new rates as in force now if you use the road.

What it means for you

  • Motorcyclists: bikes are not allowed on the Ring Road at all, and entering it now costs Rs 5,000. Use the service roads.
  • Big cars pay double: anything above 2,000cc pays Rs 10,000 for overspeeding or bad overtaking, against Rs 5,000 for a smaller car.
  • Tints and plates: tinted windows and missing or unofficial number plates are Rs 5,000 each, so a car with both faces Rs 10,000 at one stop.
  • Parents: letting an underage child drive is now the most expensive offence on the list at Rs 10,000.

The rise follows Punjab's wider change to fines for 26 violations in May 2026. ProPakistani reported in July that the Ring Road was also due to get solar street lights and an e-challan system, which would mean cameras rather than only officers issuing tickets.

If you drive the Ring Road daily to work, it is also worth knowing what the trip costs you: our fuel cost calculator works it out at today's petrol price, and the token tax calculator shows what your car owes each year.
