Carlos Alcaraz beat Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) in the Vienna Open semi-finals on Saturday 31 October to reach his fifth final of 2026, ARY News reported, citing AFP. He will play Alexander Zverev or Alex de Minaur in Sunday's final.

How the match went

  • First set: Alcaraz broke in the fourth game, Medvedev broke straight back, and a Medvedev double fault at 4-5 handed the Spaniard two set points. He took the first.
  • Second set: Alcaraz went 4-2 up when Medvedev netted a volley, but the Russian broke back to love. In the tie-break Alcaraz won five points in a row.

The numbers

  • 15 straight wins for Alcaraz at ATP 500-level events this season.
  • Seven Grand Slam titles for the 23-year-old Spaniard.
  • Five semi-finals in a row for Medvedev, now world No 5, and that run has secured his place at the season-ending ATP Finals next month.

The other semi-final and the world No 1

Zverev, who meets Australian fifth seed De Minaur, will replace the injured Jannik Sinner at the top of the men's rankings on Monday 2 November. He clinched the No 1 spot for the first time with a win in Vienna earlier this week, as we reported in Zverev clinches world No 1 for the first time. A Zverev win on Saturday would set up a final between the incoming No 1 and a seven-time major champion.

When to watch in Pakistan

Austria moved to winter time on 25 October and is now four hours behind Pakistan, so an afternoon final in Vienna lands in the evening PKT. Check the tournament's order of play on Sunday morning for the exact start. After Vienna the tour moves to the Paris Masters, the last big event before the ATP Finals.
