Aston Villa vs Man City 2-1: Nicolas Jackson double ends City's 100% start
Jackson scored in the 6th and 60th minutes at Villa Park, Haaland replied, and Enzo Maresca suffered his first Premier League defeat as City manager.

Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday, ending City's 100% winning start to the Premier League season. Nicolas Jackson scored both Villa goals, in the 6th and 60th minutes, and Erling Haaland's 52nd-minute equaliser was not enough, BBC Sport reported. The match kicked off at 12:30pm UK time, 4:30pm in Pakistan, and finished just before 6:30pm PKT.
It is City's first defeat of the season and Enzo Maresca's first league defeat as City manager. It is also the fourth season in a row that Villa have beaten City at Villa Park.
How the goals went
- 6 min, Jackson 1-0: Villa struck early, with John McGinn credited with the assist.
- 52 min, Haaland 1-1: City levelled seven minutes after half-time, Haaland finishing from Iliman Ndiaye's pass.
- 60 min, Jackson 2-1: Villa hit back eight minutes later on another transition, this time with Mbaye supplying the striker.
Villa then held on: BBC Sport's commentary singled out right-back Matty Cash, and Mbaye made a vital challenge on Jeremy Doku in the closing stages. There was a touchline row between Maresca and members of Villa's coaching staff at the final whistle, BBC Sport reported.
What the players said
"It was incredible, we got the win which is the most important thing. Man City are a strong team, the league leaders," Jackson told TNT Sports. He added that working under Unai Emery again had made settling in easier.
City captain Ruben Dias said Villa "ended up scoring two goals in two transitions, very efficient", and that City took 10 to 15 minutes to adapt to the way Villa set up.
What it means for the table
City stay top for now, but the defeat opens the door for the chasing pack. Arsenal, who play Everton at the Emirates at 7pm PKT tonight, would need to win by six goals to go top, but a win would put them five points clear of third-placed Brighton before Brighton's trip to Anfield on Sunday. City face Brighton twice in the coming week.
For Villa it is a second big result in 10 days, after the 6-0 win over Fenerbahce in the Europa League.
