RBNY vs Inter Miami 2-0: Messi starts on the bench as Casemiro own goal and Forsberg sink Miami
Messi came on after 56 minutes, two days after collecting the Princess of Asturias Award in Spain, and his 13-game scoring run ended.

Red Bull New York beat Inter Miami 2-0 in Major League Soccer on Saturday, with Lionel Messi starting on the bench and failing to score or assist for the first time in 14 games, ESPN reported. The match in Harrison, New Jersey ended in the early hours of Sunday in Pakistan.
RBNY vs Inter Miami: how the goals came
- 7th minute, 1-0: Casemiro turned a Cade Cowell cross into his own net under pressure from Julian Hall.
- Late in the game, 2-0: Emil Forsberg finished a pass from Cameron Harper to settle it, CBS News reported.
Why Messi came off the bench
Messi came on in the 56th minute. Miami coach Cristian "Kily" Gonzalez said the bench role had been agreed in advance: Messi flew to Oviedo in Spain on Thursday to receive the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports the next day, and Miami play again on Wednesday.
He changed the game once on, and his pass set up Telasco Segovia for a shot that hit the crossbar, Miami's best chance of an equaliser. But the loss ends Messi's run of 13 straight games with a goal or an assist, and Miami's three-game winning streak.
Where it leaves both teams
- Inter Miami stay second, 15 points behind Nashville, who clinched the Supporters' Shield on Saturday.
- Red Bull New York move into a playoff place with three regular-season games left.
