Davidovich Fokina knocks out world No 2 Zverev in Shanghai; world No 170 Sonay Kartal makes Wuhan final
The Spaniard came from a set down to beat the top seed and plays the Shanghai final on Sunday. In Wuhan, Britain's Sonay Kartal saved five set points to become the lowest-ranked WTA 1000 finalist ever.

Two semi-finals in China on Saturday produced two of the biggest upsets of the season.
Shanghai Masters: Davidovich Fokina beats Zverev 5-7, 6-4, 6-3
Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, ranked 26th, beat top seed and world No 2 Alexander Zverev 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 to reach the Shanghai Masters final, Business Recorder reported, citing AFP.
Zverev took a tight first set, but Davidovich Fokina broke through in the second and raced to a 3-0 lead in the third. Zverev saved two match points before the Spaniard closed it out. The win stretched Davidovich Fokina's run in China to nine matches in a row, after he won the ATP 250 title in Chengdu.
"I was a little bit nervous," the 27-year-old said of his start. "But I keep going, I keep fighting, every ball."
Zverev, 29, said he had played through fatigue and an ankle problem in Shanghai: "I carried a little bit of injury, I carried fatigue into the tournament." He said "a break is quite necessary now" and that he would watch his fitness before Vienna, which starts on 24 October. He will still finish the year as world No 1, Business Recorder reported.
In Sunday's final Davidovich Fokina meets the winner of Daniil Medvedev and fellow Spaniard Rafael Jodar. Shanghai is three hours ahead of Pakistan, so an evening session in China starts in the afternoon in Karachi and Lahore.
Wuhan Open: Kartal, ranked 170, into a WTA 1000 final
Britain's Sonay Kartal beat Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (7-5) in 72 minutes in Wuhan. At No 170 she is the lowest-ranked player to reach a WTA 1000 final since the category began in 2009, and the first British finalist in Wuhan's history, Business Recorder reported, citing Reuters.
The match turned on nerve. Kartal came back from a double-break deficit in the first set and saved two set points in the tie-break, then recovered from 1-4 down in the second and saved three more set points.
She is 24 and only two tournaments into her comeback from a spinal stress fracture that kept her out from March to September. Her career-high ranking is 44. On the way to the final she beat sixth seed Elina Svitolina and ninth seed Belinda Bencic.
"Wow, that was probably one of the toughest matches I've ever played," Kartal said. "Mentally I think this is one of the best performances I've had in my career." She plays Iga Swiatek or Maja Chwalinska for the title.
