The Golden State Valkyries are WNBA champions in only their second season. They beat the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in Game 7 of the 2026 WNBA Finals at Chase Center, San Francisco, on Saturday 31 October, CBS News reported. In Pakistan the game finished in the early hours of Sunday.

Gabby Williams carries the Valkyries

Forward Gabby Williams scored 30 points in 38 minutes, with four blocks and three steals, in a low-scoring decider in which neither side reached 70.

For Atlanta, Jordin Canada led with 18 points, five assists and four rebounds. Angel Reese was held to 8 points on 3 of 7 shooting.

Why it matters

The Valkyries joined the WNBA as an expansion team in 2025. Winning the title in their second season is a remarkably fast climb for a new franchise. The team plays at the same arena as the NBA's Golden State Warriors.

The Finals went the full seven games, and the deciding game was settled by defence: the two teams combined for 131 points.

How Game 7 was won

Golden State had home advantage for the decider, and Chase Center was the venue for the title. Williams carried the scoring load, while the Valkyries' defence held Atlanta's stars in check: Reese, one of the league's best-known players, managed only three baskets. Canada was Atlanta's one consistent threat from the guard spot.

A new team at the top

Golden State are the first champions from the Bay Area in the WNBA's history, and the title caps the league's expansion drive. The WNBA has added teams in recent seasons as interest, television money and attendance have risen sharply, with more new franchises due to join in the coming years.

How to follow the WNBA from Pakistan

The WNBA season runs from May to October, with most games starting between 4am and 8am Pakistan time. After the US clock change on 1 November, Pakistan is 13 hours ahead of San Francisco.
