Harry Kane signs Bayern Munich extension to 2029, a week after winning the Ballon d'Or

Harry Kane has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich that runs to June 2029, the Bundesliga club announced on Thursday, 5 November, ending months of talk about a return to the Premier League. The deal comes a week after the 33-year-old England captain won the Ballon d'Or, the first Englishman to do so since Michael Owen in 2001.

"I feel right at home at FC Bayern," Kane said in the club's statement, Reuters reported via Al Jazeera. "I love the club, the fans and the city of Munich... I was keen to stay."

Kane at Bayern in numbers

• Joined: 2023, from Tottenham Hotspur
• Goals: 156 in 161 appearances in all competitions
• Trophies: two Bundesliga titles, the German Cup and two German Super Cups
• Individual: Bundesliga top scorer in every season he has played, two European Golden Shoes, Germany's Footballer of the Year 2026 and the 2026 Ballon d'Or

That is almost a goal a game for three years.

What the deal is worth

Bayern did not give figures. German media reported that the extension is the most lucrative contract in the club's history, according to Reuters. The new deal keeps him in Munich until he is almost 36.

Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen called the extension "a commitment to FC Bayern and to a story that is far from over".

What it means for the Premier League record

The biggest loser is the Premier League's record book. Kane has 213 Premier League goals, 47 short of Alan Shearer's record of 260. If he stays to 2029, he would be 36 before he could chase it, and in August he said the Premier League no longer held the same appeal for him.

In winter, Saturday Bundesliga afternoon matches kick off at 7:30pm PKT and the evening game at 10:30pm PKT, while Champions League nights start at 1am PKT (early Wednesday or Thursday in Pakistan). Kane also captained England to third place at this summer's World Cup.
