Paris Saint-Germain beat Le Mans 3-1 at the Parc des Princes on Saturday 10 October, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scoring two minutes after coming off the bench, but the champions are still only fifth in Ligue 1, Dawn reported from Reuters. "PSG vs Le Mans" and the Ligue 1 standings were among the football searches trending in Pakistan overnight.

How the goals went

  • 1-0: centre-back Lucas Beraldo scored from the penalty spot.
  • 1-1: Louis Mafouta equalised for Le Mans in the second half.
  • 2-1: coach Luis Enrique sent on Kvaratskhelia, and the Georgian scored within two minutes, just before the hour.
  • 3-1: Maghnes Akliouche added the third, his first goal for PSG since joining from Monaco.
  • Late miss: Desire Doue had a penalty saved by Le Mans goalkeeper Nicolas Kocik in added time.

Off the pitch, scuffles broke out in one stand when police tried to remove a fans' banner, and the stand was briefly cleared.

Paris FC sit above PSG on goal difference. Monaco led Toulouse 2-0 at half-time through Edan Diop and Matthis Abline, but Casper Tengstedt's penalty and a first goal for teenager Sion Oppong earned Toulouse a point. Elsewhere, Brest beat Angers 5-1, scoring four times before half-time, and Lille won through Dilane Bakwa's fifth-minute goal.

Why PSG are behind

Six games in, PSG have dropped points in a way that leaves them three behind Monaco, unusual for a side that has dominated French football for a decade. A home win over Le Mans was expected; the slow first hour, Le Mans' equaliser and the missed penalty showed why Luis Enrique has been rotating his attack.

Watching Ligue 1 in Pakistan

France is three hours behind Pakistan in October, so a 9pm kick-off in Paris is midnight PKT and a 5pm Saturday game is 8pm PKT. More football from the weekend: Real Madrid 1-0 Villarreal and Inter Miami 2-1 DC United.
