Alcaraz beats Cerundolo 6-3, 6-3 in Shanghai Masters opener, says new moustache is staying
The second seed needed 66 minutes days after winning Tokyo. Medvedev won his first match since his China Open default, and Auger-Aliassime survived three hours.

Carlos Alcaraz opened his Shanghai Masters with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Argentina's Juan Manuel Cerundolo, ranked 55th, in 66 minutes on Saturday, AFP reported via ARY News. The second seed had a bye through the first round and came to China straight from winning the Tokyo Open, his first title since coming back from injury.
Shanghai is three hours ahead of Pakistan, so day sessions there run from about 9am PKT and evening matches finish around 7pm to 8pm in Pakistan.
What Alcaraz said
He was "really, really happy" with how he played and said it "wasn't easy" after only two days of preparation in very different conditions from Tokyo. Asked about the moustache he has grown, he said: "It's gonna stay." It was one of the most searched sports names in Pakistan on Saturday.
Next: Alcaraz plays the winner of Ignacio Buse and Zizou Bergs in the third round.
Medvedev back after his Beijing default
Daniil Medvedev beat Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, hitting 21 aces. It was his first match since he was defaulted from his China Open semi-final against Novak Djokovic for hitting a spectator with a ball, a default that cost him the ranking points and prize money from Beijing. Medvedev has said the incident was an accident. He plays Czech qualifier Dalibor Svrcina next.
