Wuhan Open 2026: Swiatek beats Krueger 6-1, 6-4 for 150th WTA 1000 win as Sabalenka and Pegula go out

Iga Swiatek beat American lucky loser Ashlyn Krueger 6-1, 6-4 on Thursday 15 October to reach the Wuhan Open quarter-finals for the second year running, the seventh seed's 150th win at WTA 1000 level, according to an AFP report carried by ARY News.

Swiatek is one of very few seeds still standing:

• Aryna Sabalenka (1) and Jessica Pegula (2) lost on Wednesday.
• Karolina Muchova (6) lost 7-5, 6-3 to Diana Shnaider.
• Belinda Bencic (9) went out in the second round to Sonay Kartal.
• Iva Jovic (10) lost 6-4, 6-1 to Maja Chwalinska.
• Jasmine Paolini (15) was beaten 6-2, 6-0 by Kartal.
• Elina Svitolina won through, beating Guo Hanyu 6-1, 6-4.

What is at stake

The six-time Grand Slam champion is chasing her 13th WTA 1000 title. She needs to win in Wuhan to improve her chances of qualifying for the WTA Finals, held next month in Indian Wells. With both the top two seeds gone, the draw has opened up for her.

On the men's side, Alexander Zverev reached the Shanghai Masters semi-finals on Wednesday: Zverev beats De Minaur 6-4, 6-4. The Saudi Six Kings Slam, meanwhile, has moved to December: Six Kings Slam moved to 27 to 30 December.
