At least 11 people were killed and 27 injured when a tour bus collided with a tow truck near the Akhisar toll booths on the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir motorway in Manisa province, western Turkiye, on the morning of Sunday 11 October 2026, Al Jazeera reported.

What happened

  • When: authorities received the first report just after 11am local time (1pm PKT).
  • How: the bus hit a tow truck that appeared to be carrying wooden planks. Both vehicles overturned, and the rear of the bus was badly damaged.
  • Casualties: 11 dead, 27 taken to hospitals in the area.
  • Driver: the bus driver was detained by police after being discharged from hospital.
  • Investigation: Manisa Governor Vahdettin Ozkan visited the site and said work was under way under the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci offered condolences on X and referred to the victims as citizens. Officials had not said who was on the tour or whether any foreign nationals were among the casualties.

"We are experiencing, in a painful way, just how vital it is to strictly adhere to traffic rules," the governor said.
