Germany is looking for skilled workers in health care, hotels and teaching, and the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE) in Islamabad has published guidance on how Pakistanis can apply, ARY News reported. The notice points applicants to Germany's own government job and visa portals, not to agents.

Jobs in Germany for Pakistanis: who is in demand

According to the BEOE notice:

  • Health and medical technology: dental assistants, medical assistants, veterinary assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, radiology technicians, anaesthesia assistants, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, podiatrists, dental technicians, hearing aid specialists, opticians and orthopaedic technicians.
  • Hotels and food: hotel staff, restaurant and event catering specialists, system caterers and chefs.
  • Education: teachers and other qualified academic staff.

How to apply, step by step

The BEOE sets out four steps, all on official German government sites:

  1. Check the profession. Look up your job on BERUFENET, the Federal Employment Agency's occupation database, to see what training and licence Germany requires.
  2. Check your eligibility. Use the Make it in Germany Quick-Check to see which visa or residence route fits your qualifications, age and language level.
  3. Search vacancies. Browse the official job listings.
  4. Apply directly to the employer for jobs that match.

The full list of shortage professions is on the professions in demand page.

What usually decides an application

  • Recognition of your degree or diploma. For regulated jobs such as physiotherapist, pharmacist or nurse, Germany must recognise your qualification before you can work in the profession. Start this early; it can take months.
  • German language. Most health jobs need German at B1 or B2. Hotel and kitchen jobs may accept less, but German still helps.
  • Documents. Degree and transcripts attested by HEC (or IBCC for school certificates), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the professional council registration (PMDC, Pharmacy Council and so on).

Avoid paying an agent for a "Germany visa"

No fee is needed to use any of the four portals. Anyone promising a guaranteed German work visa for a fee is not part of this scheme. Licensed overseas employment promoters are listed by the BEOE; check any agent there before paying, and register with the Bureau before you fly.
