Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will add four aircraft to its fleet by January 2027, with the first entering service on Sunday 1 November, Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Osama Sarwar told the National Assembly on Friday, ProPakistani reported.

The timeline the National Assembly was given

AircraftWhenWhat we know
FirstOperational from 1 November 2026Joins the fleet this weekend
SecondArrives 15 November 2026Route to be decided after it lands
Third and fourthJanuary 2027Will operate from Karachi

Sarwar said the extra aircraft would let PIA fly more routes. He did not give the aircraft types or say whether they are leased or bought, and PIA had not published those details by Friday afternoon.

How it fits with PIA's recent plans

The announcement comes in a busy month for the airline as it rebuilds its international network:

  • Its first leased Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registered PK-786, is due to fly London to Islamabad on 31 October with 358 seats (our report).
  • Islamabad to Birmingham flights start on 1 December, three a week on a Boeing 777 (details).
  • Five Boeing 777s are being refitted with full-flat Business Class seats (details).

Whether the aircraft entering service on 1 November is the Dreamliner was not stated in the House.

What it means if you are flying

More aircraft usually means more frequencies and fewer cancellations when one plane goes for maintenance, which has been PIA's weak point with a small fleet. The two aircraft due in January are to be based in Karachi, so travellers from Sindh and Balochistan are the likeliest to see new or restored routes first. Nothing changes for existing bookings. New routes will only be confirmed once PIA opens bookings, so check pia.com.pk or call 111-786-786 before planning around them.
