IPL 2027 trade: CSK get Liam Livingstone and Jack Edwards, SRH get Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis
Livingstone moves to Chennai at INR 6 crore, less than half the INR 13 crore SRH paid for him. The retention deadline is now 17 November and the auction is on 16 December in Goa.
Chennai Super Kings have traded fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis to Sunrisers Hyderabad for England allrounder Liam Livingstone and Australia's Jack Edwards ahead of IPL 2027, ESPNcricinfo reported on Thursday 5 November 2026.
The trade
| Player | From | To | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Liam Livingstone | SRH | CSK | INR 6 crore (down from INR 13 crore) |
| Jack Edwards | SRH | CSK | INR 3 crore (unchanged) |
| Khaleel Ahmed | CSK | SRH | not disclosed |
| Nathan Ellis | CSK | SRH | not disclosed |
Why it suits both sides
- CSK get batting power and spin: Livingstone has 8,595 runs and 171 wickets in 370 T20s, bowling both off-spin and leg-spin. He recently played the first European T20 Premier League for Glasgow Cosmic.
- Edwards is a seam-bowling allrounder who missed the whole 2026 IPL with a foot injury, then took a five-wicket haul against South Africa in only his second ODI.
- SRH get a left-arm new-ball option in Khaleel, who played for them from 2018 to 2021, to pair with T Natarajan, whom they traded back from Delhi Capitals. Ellis played just one game for CSK across two seasons because of injury.
Without Khaleel, CSK will look to Mukesh Choudhary and Gurjapneet Singh as their left-arm quicks.
Key IPL 2027 dates
- Retention deadline: 17 November 2026, moved two days from 15 November, the day of the fifth India vs New Zealand ODI.
- Mini-auction: 16 December 2026 in Goa.
