New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the rest of the NZ vs IND T20I series with a low-grade tear in his right calf, and Matthew Fisher will stay with the squad in his place, New Zealand Cricket said on Thursday, as ESPNcricinfo reported.

Ferguson played the first two T20Is and felt pain in his calf during the second match in Christchurch. Scans confirmed the tear, and NZC said he needs "another week or so of recovery".

Who replaces him

Fisher joined the T20I squad in Wellington as bowling cover and was first named for the third T20I only. He now stays for the rest of the series instead of playing for New Zealand A against India A. Brett Randell has been called into the New Zealand A squad for the second match in Fisher's place.

Henry and Jamieson saved for the ODIs

  • Matt Henry felt pain in his right quadriceps in the second T20I. Scans showed a low-grade tear needing one to two weeks of recovery. He was already due to sit out the rest of the T20Is and remains on track for the ODIs.
  • Kyle Jamieson is under "planned workload management". He will play for Canterbury in the Ford Trophy on Saturday and rejoin New Zealand on Monday.

The ODI series starts on 4 November in Auckland.

"We're gutted for Lockie and Matt," head coach Rob Walter said. "I know Lockie was fizzing to play in front of a sell-out home crowd at Eden Park tomorrow, but he's determined to be back for the ODIs."

Series so far and the next match

India have already won the five-match T20I series, with New Zealand searching for answers against India's batting. The 4th T20I at Eden Park, Auckland is on Friday, 30 October, listed by ESPNcricinfo for a start at about 12:00pm Pakistan time.

For Pakistan fans, the bigger date is Saturday: Pakistan play Sri Lanka in the ODI tri-series final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, at 1:30pm PKT. Fixtures, results and where to watch are on our tri-series living page, and our guide to watching PTV Sports live covers TV and streaming.
