Mohammad Rizwan is back, and in style. The former Pakistan captain finished 200 not out off 252 balls on day two of Peshawar Blues' Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold match against Faisalabad at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, 4 November, Dawn reported. It is the second double century of his first-class career.

The innings

  • 200 not out, 252 balls, 35 fours and one six.
  • Peshawar resumed on 306 for 3 and declared on 503 for 4 in 115.2 overs.
  • Najab Khan made 133 and Mohammad Haris added a quick 70 not out off 69 balls.

Faisalabad reached 118 for 2 in 35.2 overs at stumps. Mohammad Adnan trapped both openers lbw, Faham-ul-Haq for 31 and Sameer Saqib for 25, and Asim Ali Nasir (35 not out) and Atiq-ur-Rehman (24 not out) resume on Thursday, still 385 behind.

Why it matters

This was Rizwan's first big innings since the England Test tour, where he made 61 runs in four innings and was one of seven players sent home after the second Test at Lord's. The PCB recently cleared him to return to domestic cricket, Dawn said; an inquiry by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency linked to the tour is still open. A double hundred in the country's top first-class competition is the strongest case he can make to the selectors before Pakistan's next red-ball assignment.
