The Punjab government has still not released its ranking of the province's top 10 universities, a year after it announced the exercise, ProPakistani reported on Monday 26 October 2026. The project, run through the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), was meant to assess more than 60 universities and cost an estimated Rs 50 million, according to PHEC sources quoted in the report.

What was promised

None of it has been published: not the scores, not the criteria and not the names of the top 10. A professor quoted by ProPakistani said the government appeared reluctant to release the results.

A separate scorecard for vice chancellors

The ranking is different from the key performance indicators (KPIs) that PHEC approved last year for the heads of public universities. Those indicators judge vice chancellors on research output, teaching standards, faculty development, student performance, financial management, governance and progress on development plans, and allow for differences in a university's age and size.

What students and parents can use meanwhile

Without a provincial ranking, the national Higher Education Commission's recognition and category lists remain the main official check on a university. Our guides cover what admissions need now:

We will publish the list as soon as PHEC releases it.
