Majboor, the Pakistani pop song by Sheheryar Rehan and Zoha Waseem, now has an official remix by Belgian DJ Lost Frequencies, the producer behind the worldwide hit "Are You With Me". The original, released in 2025, has passed 250 million streams and reached Spotify's Global Viral Top 50, pulling in listeners from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and the UAE, The Express Tribune reported.

How a Belgian DJ found a Pakistani song

The remix did not start in a studio deal. Lost Frequencies (real name Felix De Laet) began dropping his own version of Majboor into his live sets, then posted a clip of one performance on Instagram. The response led to an official release.

"There's something timeless about Majboor," he said, according to the Tribune. Sheheryar Rehan, who wrote and composed the song, said its journey abroad was impossible to predict, and that the remix gave it a fresh feel while keeping the emotion of the original.

Xulfi, the producer and co-founder and COO of Giraffe Music, which is linked to the project, pointed to Lost Frequencies playing Majboor at a show in India as proof that such collaborations can carry Pakistani music to new audiences.

Why it worked

  • The voice: Zoha Waseem's vocals lean on the ghazal tradition, which gives the pop production an Urdu, South Asian colour that stands out on global playlists.
  • The numbers: 250 million streams across Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music in about a year puts Majboor among the biggest Pakistani pop releases of the streaming era.
  • The remixer: Lost Frequencies has form with remixes. His 2014 take on Easton Corbin's country song "Are You With Me" went to number one in 18 countries and made him the first Belgian artist to top the UK chart.

What it means for Pakistani music

Pakistani artists have been reaching listeners outside the country mainly through Coke Studio, Indian film placements and diaspora audiences in the Gulf and the UK. A club and festival remix from a major European DJ opens a different door: dance playlists and live sets in markets where Urdu pop rarely plays.

For listeners here, the remix is out now on the main streaming services. Spotify Premium, YouTube Premium and Apple Music are billed in dollars or at local card rates, and banks add tax on foreign card payments: our currency converter shows what a dollar subscription costs in rupees today.
