M3 Motorway closed from Faizpur to Jaranwala due to dense fog, Motorway Police say
NHMP shut the motorway between Faizpur and Jaranwala early on Tuesday and asks drivers to travel between 10am and 6pm during the fog season.
The M3 Motorway is closed from Faizpur to Jaranwala because of dense fog, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) said early on Tuesday 3 November 2026, ProPakistani reported. Syed Imran Ahmed, spokesperson for NHMP Central Region, said the section was shut to protect lives and property and urged people to avoid unnecessary travel.
Which stretch is shut
The M3 starts at the Faizpur interchange near Lahore and runs south-west past Jaranwala. The closed stretch is Faizpur to Jaranwala. Motorway Police reopen sections once visibility improves, so check before you set off.
Safer hours to travel
NHMP says the period from 10am to 6pm is relatively safer during the fog season, and advises people to plan journeys in daylight.
If you must drive in fog
The Motorway Police advice:
- Keep your speed low and leave a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
- Stay in your lane; avoid needless overtaking and sudden braking.
- Use fog lights, and check that headlights, tail lights and wipers work.
- If visibility drops sharply, stop at a safe place off the road and wait.
Do not stop on the carriageway itself with hazard lights on; drivers behind may not see you until it is too late.
Fog season has started
Fog closes motorway sections in Punjab every winter. In January this year five motorways were shut at once, and parts of the M2, M3 and M4 were closed in December 2024. Motorway Police post closures and reopenings on their official social media accounts.
