Barcelona vs Real Madrid ended 1-2 at the Spotify Camp Nou in the early hours of Monday, Pakistan time. Kylian Mbappe scored both Real Madrid goals, the second in the 87th minute, and Barcelona's lead at the top of La Liga is now three points instead of six.

The match kicked off at 1am PKT, so most fans here watched it overnight. If you went to sleep at half-time with Madrid 1-0 up, here is what you missed.

How the goals went

  • 41 minutes, 0-1: Mbappe opened the scoring just before the break. A cross from Yan Diomande deflected off Barcelona defender Gerard Martin and Mbappe was first to it.
  • 61 minutes, 1-1: Raphinha equalised after a reverse pass from Pedri. ESPN counts it as his 15th goal of the season.
  • 87 minutes, 1-2: Mbappe tapped in the winner from Eduardo Camavinga's cut-back, after Jude Bellingham had worked the ball into the box and Barcelona's Gabriel Jesus lost possession.

Sky Sports also noted a 57th-minute incident in which Joao Cancelo caught Diomande on the calf with his studs. No card followed.

La Liga table after El Clasico

According to ESPN's figures after the match:

PositionTeamPoints
1Barcelona27
2Atletico Madrid25
3Real Madrid24

Before kick-off Barcelona were six points clear of Madrid. The gap is now three, with Atletico squeezed in between, so the top three are separated by three points about a quarter of the way into the season.

Mourinho's night

This was Jose Mourinho's first Clasico since he came back to the Real Madrid bench, 13 years after his first spell ended. His first Clasico in charge, in November 2010, finished 5-0 to Barcelona. On Sunday he slid on his knees on the touchline after the winner, Sky Sports reported, and afterwards called it "a great victory for the boys, against a great opponent", according to ESPN.

Madrid were without Vinicius Junior, who is serving a four-match ban for his red card against Villarreal earlier this month. We covered the build-up, the ban and the PKT kick-off time in our Clasico preview.

Why it matters for the Ballon d'Or talk

Two goals in a Clasico at Camp Nou is the kind of night that shapes award debates, and Mbappe, Lamine Yamal and Harry Kane are among the names tipped (The Straits Times has Kane as favourite) for this year's Ballon d'Or.

What fans in Pakistan searched

"FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid standings" was the top Google search in Pakistan overnight, with more than 10,000 searches, and "Kylian Mbappe" was close behind. The short answer: Barcelona still lead, but only by three points.
