Jesús de Miguel dies at 30 after collision with Andorra goalkeeper in Tenerife match
The Tenerife striker went into cardiac arrest after Jesús Owono's knee struck his chest on Monday. UEFA will hold a minute's silence at every European match this week.

Jesús de Miguel, the 30-year-old CD Tenerife striker, has died a day after a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono in a Spanish second division (LaLiga Hypermotion) match on Monday, 2 November 2026. The club confirmed his death on Tuesday, and UEFA has ordered a minute's silence before every European match this week, including tonight's Champions League games.
The facts below come from Business Recorder's report and from Basque public broadcaster EITB.
What happened in Tenerife vs Andorra
- Deep into stoppage time, Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono came out of his area to clear a long ball and his knee struck de Miguel in the chest.
- De Miguel collapsed and did not move. Medical staff worked on him on the pitch for more than five minutes before an ambulance took him to hospital.
- Owono was shown a straight red card, and the match was abandoned seven minutes into stoppage time.
- De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest after the collision and died on Tuesday without recovering.
Who was Jesús de Miguel
Jesús de Miguel Alameda was born in Madrid in 1996. He joined Tenerife from Castellón before the 2025-26 season and scored 11 goals in his first season on the island. Tenerife said the squad and staff were devastated and could not believe the news.
How Spanish and European football responded
- The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) postponed every match scheduled for Tuesday, including Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina ties, and cancelled the presentation of Spain's Under-21 squad before their game against Japan.
- UEFA ordered a minute's silence before all of its matches this week: the Champions League on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Europa League and Conference League on Thursday, and the UEFA Youth League. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said the organisation had searched for words and found only silence.
- Gerard Pique, the former Barcelona defender who is now Andorra's president, apologised publicly and wished de Miguel peace. Barcelona and Real Madrid both sent condolences to his family and to Tenerife.
Watching from Pakistan
The minute's silence will be held before this week's Champions League matches, which kick off at 10:45pm and 1am Pakistan time on Tuesday and Wednesday nights (6:45pm and 9pm in central Europe). Questions over what happens next to Owono, and whether anyone faces action over the collision, have not been answered by the league or the authorities so far; we will update this story when they are.
