Newcastle 0-1 Everton. Thierno Barry scored early in the second half on Monday night as Everton won away in the Premier League for the first time this season, Sky Sports reported.

How the goal came

In the 49th minute, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall took a quick free-kick to release Tyrique George, whose shot slipped under goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek, and Barry tapped in the loose ball.

Neither side had a shot on target in the first half. Newcastle's best moments came late: Anthony Elanga hit the post in the 66th minute, their first shot on target did not arrive until the 85th, from Yoane Wissa, and Jordan Pickford saved from Wissa again five minutes later.

Ramsey's red card

Newcastle substitute Jacob Ramsey was sent off in stoppage time for two yellow cards in 86 seconds, and the home crowd booed the team off at full time.

Where it leaves both clubs

  • Everton: up to 7th. It is their first away league win since they won at St James' Park in February. David Moyes left Jack Grealish out of the squad with a fitness issue.
  • Newcastle: down to 13th. Matthias Jaissle's side have lost four of their last five games in all competitions, and this was their second defeat to Everton in four days after a 3-1 loss on Merseyside in the Carabao Cup fourth round.
