Update, 27 October 2026: Nvidia will invest $3 billion in Meta, buying into the share sale Meta launched on Monday, CNBC reported on Tuesday. That is about Rs 830 billion at today's dollar rate of Rs 276.81. Nvidia said Meta would also expand its use of Nvidia's Vera Rubin systems and Vera CPUs, and the two would work more closely on Muse, the AI agent Meta launched last month.

"AI agents represent a new computing paradigm," Nvidia chief Jensen Huang said in a statement. Mark Zuckerberg said Meta was "excited to keep working with NVIDIA to deliver the best personal agents and frontier models for billions of people". Both companies' shares were flat in pre-market trading, CNBC said.

The $3 billion is the first confirmed part of the up to $5 billion that Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom had said they might buy. Nvidia has taken part in 121 investment rounds this year, according to Dealroom figures cited by CNBC, against 13 in 2022, including stakes in OpenAI, Anthropic, Intel and xAI.

The share sale, as announced on Monday

Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, plans to raise up to $95 billion by selling new shares to pay for its artificial intelligence build-out, Business Recorder reported on Monday 26 October 2026. That is about Rs 26.3 trillion at today's dollar rate. Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom have said they are interested in buying up to $5 billion of the shares.

Why Meta needs the money

Meta is spending heavily on data centres, computing power and AI products to keep up with OpenAI and Anthropic. The numbers from its latest results show the strain:

  • Capital spending for 2026: now $135 billion to $145 billion, with the lower end raised from $130 billion.
  • Future commitments: about $825 billion, mostly for data centres, AI infrastructure and cloud computing.
  • Cash flow: $2.12 billion negative in July to September, its first negative free cash flow in more than ten years, against $10.63 billion positive a year earlier.
  • Cash and debt: $82.45 billion in cash and securities on 30 September, just above $80.92 billion of long-term debt.

Revenue is still growing: Meta made $64.6 billion in the quarter, above Wall Street's $63.37 billion estimate, and expects $73 billion to $76 billion in October to December. Our Q3 results report covers the non-voting share class in detail.

What it means for users and businesses in Pakistan

Nothing changes for Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp users from the share sale itself. If you pay for Meta ads or subscriptions by card in dollars, the currency converter and the dollar rate page show the rupee cost.
