Apple launches M6 MacBook Pro from $1,999 and iMac from $1,499: about Rs 5.53 lakh and Rs 4.15 lakh

Apple launched a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac with its M6 chip on Tuesday, 27 October, a day before its "Pro and tell" event in Los Angeles. The MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 and the iMac at $1,499, Reuters reported. At today's interbank rate of about Rs 276.80 to the dollar, that is roughly Rs 553,300 and Rs 414,900 before any import duty, taxes or a reseller's margin in Pakistan.

Prices and dates

• Pre-orders: Wednesday, 28 October, in 35 countries and regions including the US. The Verge put the start at 1:10pm ET, which is 10:10pm in Pakistan.
• On sale: 6 November.

Apple does not run an online store in Pakistan, so local prices will come from authorised resellers once stock lands, and they are usually well above the dollar price converted.

What is new

• M6 chip: Apple's first chip built on a 2-nanometre process, with a dual 16-core Neural Engine for on-device AI.
• MacBook Pro: up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI performance than the M5 model, and up to 24 hours of battery, which Apple calls the longest of any Mac.
• iMac: skips M5 and jumps straight from M4; Apple says on-device AI is up to 5x faster. The base model now has Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The 10-core version keeps two Thunderbolt ports and the 12-core version has four. The design is unchanged.

The base iMac costs the same $1,499 as the M4 model it replaces, which had an 8-core CPU.
